Wonderful Things about Summer

Finding the perfect patch of grass to sit on at the park

Oh! That magic grass. After thirty minutes of jogging and running around the park, it's nice to sit on the perfect patch of grass and wander your eyes around or watch the sun rise. Especially on those cool mornings under shady patches under trees or scoping sunny spots. As that cool breeze blows by just close your eyes and enjoy a few quiet minutes of relaxing and soaking it all in.

Emptying the recycling bin on your computer

There it went. Old projects, duplicate photos, corrupt mp3s and videos…now gone. A cleaner, fresher, and unpolluted hard
drive.

Watching seniors do aerobics

Old folks in the park for a session of cardio work-out. And if you happen to catch a glimpse of the jumping jacks and karate kicks then you know how fun it is to see all the wet shirts, dripping glasses, and smiling faces. They just look so happy.

Seeing a huge tree and remembering how small it used to be

Bicycling around the neighborhood, I decided to visit those areas where we used to play; canals, secret passageways, hilly plains, grassy terrains. I see the Acacia tree where we used to hang-out in the corner and was amazed how it's so large now. Steering by your old friends just walking around the neighborhood you grew up in can give you that sudden sense of life slowly moving onwards and upwards.

Your soiled shoes after a long walk

Yes. After that long walk on the muddy road, you just could not wait to take those dirty shoes off your feet. But looking at it, a small pinch of pride takes over. I just walked a mile, alone!

Sneaking under someone else's umbrella

I am one of those people who are not smart enough to bring an umbrella. There I would be, standing on my feet wearing jeans and my good old shirt, getting all spongy and swampy and drenched and dripping and ice-chilled. Realizing that I'm freezing, I approach a complete stranger with the shining umbrella. I would smile at him and seek shelter under that neon shelter. And for a few minutes, I was good.

Seeing someone laugh in their sleep

One night, you decide to sleep with your parents and little bro. You're tossing and turning, wrapped tightly crumpled sheets and flat pillows, while your bed buddies blissfully slumbers on. You're so tired and yet enraged that you couldn't sleep. And then, on that dark, empty and silent moment, my little brother laying next to me starts laughing in his sleep. There's something just so hilarious when you see them laugh in their sleep and try to imagine what's running through their head.

Your favorite old, comfy T-shirt

Well, let's face it. This one's stretched out, wearing off, and an insect definitely chewed a few holes on it. But hey, this one's so cool and comfy and it smells so good you can smell it throughout the day.

When you walk by old folks who sit on their porch

Couple old folks sitting on their rockers and just flashing those gums and staring at you as you walk by.

Taking your bra off after wearing it for hours. It just feels like freedom.

Hanging your head out the window of a car

One warm, sunny day, driving in a car with the window open and your hair whipping around everywhere, and you stick out that head safely out that window and letting it wildly roller-coaster against the wind? You can kind of close your eyes and pretend you're just flying along.

The smell of rain on a hot sidewalk

There's just something about the smell of rain on a hot sidewalk. It's sort of like the rain cleans the air — completely hammering all the dirt and grime particles down to the ground and releasing some hot, baked-in chemicals from the pavement. It smells best if it hasn't rained in a while and the sidewalk is scalding hot — then it sort of sizzles and steams up into a big, hot, intoxicating whiff.

Oh Summer.
