Growing Up

Here are five signs that made me realize I'm really growing up:

1. When old friends, high schoolmates, current classmates and strangers my age are having babies — unintentionally and intentionally though from the age of 16-21ish, the majority of the babies born by our peers were unplanned. Two of my classmates got pregnant while in college and had to take leave. My two childhood playmates and one cousin are now lactating mothers. Now I so am left wondering what the hell is wrong with my personality or appearance that have me nowhere near creating a little one. Hahaha. Regardless, it’s pleasant to see our friends start their families or live their life wiser this second time.

2. My girl friends are in serious relationships and are talking about getting married after college. I mean, WTF? Breakups are becoming less acceptable. The typical high school relationship isn’t something my peers are proud of. I can't believe that they are now talking about having kids and stuff, weird stuff. When I hear my girl friends talk about this, the feminist in me wanna slap them faces and make them realize that it's too early for domestic life, castration and concubine-wether matters.

3. The number of bills is rising. Every start of the month, I have to pay my rent. Water and electricity bills on the end. I have stress-ulcers because of this. And I am running out of shampoo. I'm soo poor.

4. Personal products are changing. I have gotten over lip balms and smackers and moved on to matte lipstick and some eyeliner. Mascaras are wonderful, aren't they? And oh, those shoes are adorable. I'm not talking about barbie-doll rubber shoes and such - I'm talking about stilletos, pumps and wedges. And shaving and plucking. Yes, women's liberationists will hate for this but I'm doing it.

5. I've become like my parents. I now sleep early (and I try very hard on this one). I try to eat what's right. I  work. I'm serious. I'm boring. Forgive me for one sec as I check my daily organizer. Oh, I have to go. Need to submit this file. Yes, that is exactly my recurring internal monologue.
